Rod and piston seals are mainly used to ensure sealing in hydraulic cylinders. Chromex provides a wide range of moulded and machined parts in order to offer you best solution for your industrial sealing requirements. Chromex’s piston and rod seals allow translating parts within a dynamic sealing to connect to each other. 
 

Chromex’ rod seals

Rod seals are mainly used in hydraulic cylinders to ensure sealing of liquids. These seals are also called U-Rings and can have different shapes: lip seals, composite seals or compact seals.

Purpose of rod seals

Rod seals act as a pressure barrier and ensure the working fluid to stay inside the hydraulic cylinder. Rod seals have therefore an essential sealing function in the hydraulic field. Rod seals regulate a thin layer of lubricant on the rod when it retracts thus avoiding the rod to erode and lubricating the wiper at the same time.

Chromex’s piston seals

Piston seals ensure sealing of the present fluids put under pressure between the piston and the bore of the hydraulic cylinder. Chromex’s piston seals are shaped so as to reduce pressure between piston and rod when in motion.

Purpose of piston seals

Piston seals function is similar to rod seals: pressure control and maintaining the working fluid inside the hydraulic cylinder. Piston seals regulate a thin layer of lubricant on the whole surface of the cylinder head when the piston is moving, thus avoiding the erosion of the cylinder head.
